TUNEGLUE
Posted by Hal Bogerd at September 26, 2007 6:48 PMTuneglue allows you to plug in an artist's name and generate a web of related/similar artists with a few clicks of your mouse. I tried it with a few of my favorite artists and didn't find any real surprises and some of the extended connections are questionable. There may be a drinking and/or trivia game in there somewhere: "I predict Tuneglue links Richard Thompson to June Tabor in four degrees."
Amusement level: low (it may be useful to occasionally kill a few minutes at work).
Speaking of related artists, now that Wilco is quickly becoming one of my favorite bands thanks to RJ and Larry, I am delving into Son Volt and backing into Uncle Tupelo. Interesting question, at least to me, for those of you that are much more versed in the alt-country, Americana, or whatever you want to call it genre: Is it better for us musically that JF and JT went separate directions, or would the two combined have continued to progressively put out better music (this is, of course, assuming that everyone agrees that Anodyne was the best UT album)?
