"Rock and Roll Road"
Posted by Hal Bogerd at October 9, 2007 9:22 PM"On The Road-the original scroll" by Jack Kerouac (Viking Press 2007) includes an introduction to the novel, commentary and the original unedited version of "On The Road" as Kerouac typed it on the fabled 120 foot long roll of paper. Included are various snippets of conversations between Kerouac and various editors as he struggled to find a publisher/editor for his manuscript. As he fought to have the book published, Kerouac searched for the perfect title: "Gone On The Road", "Beat Generation" and yes, "Rock And Roll Road" were considered. Jack finally settled on "On The Road", it was published fifty years ago in 1957 and the rest is hipster history.
“I think of Dean Moriarty, I even think of old Dean Moriarty, the father we never found, I think of Dean Moriarty, I think of ... Dean... Moriarty..."
In the original scroll version of "On The Road" actual names were used....."I think of Neal Cassady.........".
