Ryan Bingham's "Mescalito"
Posted by Hal Bogerd at November 21, 2007 9:14 PMRyan Bingham's catchy raspy voiced major label debut "Mescalito" at times sounds like it could be a lost album from Butch Hancock or Terry Allen. Some tracks veer into a generic Black North Mississippi Crowes All Star in Texas groove but most tracks are right on target as Ryan stakes his claim as an important member of the next generation of Texas Troubadours. I can imagine Delbert McClinton or Joe Ely covering a track or two on their next release.
Christmas shopping suggestion: Steal a peek at your friends cd collection. If you see anything by Butch, Terry, Delbert or Joe considering buying them "Mescalito" for Christmas.
Definitely a strong four-star album!
Posted by: larry at November 23, 2007 8:04 AMI love this CD. I saw Bingham open for the Drive By Truckers here in New York and the man puts on one hell of a stage show as well.
Posted by: Baron Lane at November 24, 2007 4:37 PMWhy have people been so slow to get on this train? This cd is basically a deluxe reissue and Lost highway has had him on their roster for quite some time. Better late than never, I suppose...
Posted by: Kelly at November 28, 2007 11:43 AMI stumbled on Ryan a couple days after his CD release in October, so thought I should ck it out. I have not found too many other albums "since Waylon & Wiilie etc. that I cared to hear more than once"
So BRING ON THE NEXT CD "still listening" Summertime gets here, We'll be floating the creek drinking beers and BUZZING TO RYAN Bingham singin along loud and off key, that's the Talking Rock Creek way in GA !! Keep it up !!!
