AJ Roach - Revelation - Four Stars
AJ Roach's album is a strange mix. Some of the songs fall into too much self-pity and wallow in painful chemical-dependency, turning me off. But then some of the songs, most notably Devil May Dance, Clinch River Blues, and the title track, Revelation, completely and totally kick my ass. Devil may be one of the best songs I've heard all year -- twangy, Indie, very innovative. Whereas the Clich and Revelation are Michael Hurley-esque folk rock songs of the best kind. You'll hear everything from acoustic guitars to fiddles, banjos to Hammond organs. This album is one that requires multiple listens. Recommended.
