Wandering on the Web

Posted by Sean Moores at December 6, 2007 6:23 AM

You can always tell when you’ve been working too hard: It’s when you haven’t had time to check out a few of your favorite Web sites on company time. It’s been so busy around the office that I had to resort to surfing on my own time when I got home Wednesday night. Here’s a little bit of what I discovered:

The Brian Setzer Orchestra recently was in Philadelphia to tape an episode of WXPN’s World Café Live that is scheduled to air today at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. Head on over to xpn.org or npr.org for more information and to find many more shows in the World Café archive.

Bruce Springsteen’s official Web site, brucespringsteen.net, is featuring video clips from the “Magic” tour. It’s not quite as cool as watching The Boss front the E Street Band in person, but it’s a heck of a lot cheaper.

Canadian singer-songwriter Kathleen Edwards will release her third album, “Asking for Flowers,” on March 4, according to kathleenedwards.com.

Old 97’s have revamped old97s.com. They have a new mailing list, so make sure to sign up again if you were registered on the old site. They’ve also got a new song, a Christmas track titled “Here It Is Christmas Time.” You can stream it in the site’s audio player, or download it now from iTunes.

Old Crow Medicine Show will appear on the long-running PBS series “Austin City Limits” the weekend of Dec. 22, according to their Web site, crowmedicine.com.

Jayhawksfanpage.com reveals that Gary Louris’ solo debut, “Vagabonds,” will be released on Feb. 19. Even better, there are four tracks from the disc streaming on Louris’ MySpace page, myspace.com/garylouris.

The new Drive-By Truckers disc, “Brighter than Creation’s Dark,” will be released on Jan. 22. Patterson Hood gives a song-by-song rundown over at drivebytruckers.com.

For those of you who purchased Wilco’s latest, “Sky Blue Sky,” on CD, the band has a new bonus EP available. Head over to wilcoworld.net, pop your disc in your computer, and follow the easy instructions to download the EP.

Gillian Welch and David Rawlings appear on the soundtrack to the new documentary “Jimmy Carter: Man from Plains.” They perform together on a new version of “Look at Miss Ohio” and an instrumental version of Neil Young’s “Pocahontas.” Rawlings also teams with Iraqi musician Amir ElSaffar on an instrumental of Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land.” Alejandro Escovedo also appears on the disc. For more, go to gillianwelch.com.

This post is pretty much my new to-do list.

Also? Big ups to Wilco for actually using an ECD for good, not evil.
