Hallelujah
Posted by Stacy Chandler at March 18, 2008 5:07 PMIt's hard to find someone who doesn't love the song "Hallelujah," but it seems everyone has a favorite performer of it. Some people go straight to the source, Leonard Cohen, while others discovered the song much later, when Jeff Buckley made it his masterpiece. And there are other fine versions out there, too (looking at you, Rufus Wainwright).
But it looks like a whole new generation is discovering it, and so has Hollywood. Buckley's "Hallelujah" was the No.1 iTunes download last week, thanks to getting another turn in the spotlight from some very-special-guest-star roles in some of the top TV shows.
Read all about the resurgence here. Then put on your favorite version of "Hallelujah" and remember why you love the song, too.
Maybe not as poignant if you're not from Dallas or don't know the folks involved, but I just posted on my favorite version here (including video):

from above.....
Jeff Buckley called it an homage to "the hallelujah of the orgasm".
Enough said.

for a quite lovely version of the song by young Brit artist Jinder. You'll need to scroll down the page to find it. It is a clever medley of Hallelujah and Morrisey's I know it's over.
Dylan used to do a nice live version of it back in the early 90's. It's on Willie's "Songbird" album too from a year or to ago but I'm not crazy about that version...

Posted by: tony at March 19, 2008 4:13 PMGlad to hear that Rufus Wainwright merited a mention. My favorite version, by far (can one actually LISTEN to the L. Cohen end-to-end? I haven't made it work yet...).
And it's a damn fine addition to the Shrek soundtrack.
Guess who has kids -
