Peter Cooper's "Mission Door"
Posted by Hal Bogerd at April 15, 2008 8:43 PMI've listened to Peter Cooper's "Mission Door" about half a dozen times in the last 24 hours and if the year keeps going like this my 2008 top ten list is going to get pretty crowded. Standout tracks: "Take Care" is a brutally honest and moving tribute to Townes Van Zandt written after seeing a "show, if you could call it a show" where Townes was "too messed up to remember most of the words". "They Hate Me" is new great rock car song in the Springsteen via Chuck Berry tradition. "715 (for Hank Aaron)" honors a true American hero and somehow Peter covers Aaron's entire career while commenting on America and racism in a perfect song that comes in at 6:23 and doesn't feel one second too long. Although never mentioned by name, you can't hear the song without thinking about Barr'oid Bonds and his theft of Aaron's homerun crown.
I'm not sure if I'll file this under alt country, folk-rock or singer/songwriter but I don't have to worry about that until I take it out of the cd player.
You can check out some of Peter's tunes here.
