This month's find: "Inverted Valentine"

Girls Guns and Glory (the band).
Inverted Valentine (the disc).
Jack Squat (the label).

Boston's "Girls Guns and Glory" have forged a style that merges early rock and classic country without sounding retro. Trying to imagine what that sounds like? Mix the vocals of Dwight Yoakam, Raul Malo and Chris Isaak with a touch of twang, Roy Orbison and Marty Robbins. There’s nothing trendy or flashy about "Inverted Valentine”. With strong songwriting, great vocals and a rockin’ band “Inverted Valentine” is the rare disc that should appeal to alt country kids who have never heard of Roy Orbison or Marty Robbins and their moms and dads who have Dwight and Chris in their record collection. Grandma might even start tapping her toe and ask if those boys can sing “The Streets of Laredo”. Answer: yes they can.
