Frank Hoier’s “Lovers and Dollars”

Posted by Hal Bogerd at July 31, 2008 9:17 PM

offers up ten mostly original tracks of rock, folk and delta and country blues including a rockin’ retrovaudevillelectric cover of “I Don’t Care If The Sun Don’t Shine”. Frank’s talented songwriting and vocals recalls Josh Ritter (“Moonshiner”), Gordon Gano (“I’ve Made Up My Mind”) and Ryan Adams (“We Both Live in Brooklyn, Babe” could be an outtake from “Gold”) mixed with a dose of Peter Case’s streetwise bluesy sensibility. “Jesus Don’t Give Tax Breaks To The Rich” is a timeless tune that unfortunately never gets delivered to Washington, DC and the bluesy call and response “41st Street Blues (You Look Good To Me)” sounds like a perfect set closer if you're lucky enough to catch him live.
You can check out Frank’s music here and you can order a copy of "Lovers and Dollars" over at CD Baby.

Correction: "Moonshiner" is a traditional song. Frank's
arrangement and vocals remind me of Josh Ritter on that track.
