Lucinda a la Twitter

Little Honey
Lucinda Williams

First listen of the new album song-by-song live tweeted.

Real Love: non-ambient GUITARS, missed those on the last record. Has a "mid period Lu" sound, like something off Sweet Old World. Catchy!

Circles and Xs: More chunky blues guitar up front. And almost acapella. YES. Bouncy but lyrics might be darker?

Tears of Joy: Up there with the best off Essence and WWT. southern soul guitar and backing singers. Stunning.

Little Rock Star: Poetic complex fuzzy and building/falling like some West songs but ... good. Will work well live.

Honey Bee: certain middle aged male Lu fans will sit up straighter at this one. Hard rocking chicago blues. Its all in the delivery.

Well Well Well: Some bona fide country music! Not a weak nanosecond on album yet. Love how she snarl sings "traaaaash" Go Lu.

If Wishes Were Horses: Beautiful piano start. Heartbreaking content. Irresistable melody. Future staple of tragic breakup mixtapes. *Sniff*

Jailhouse Tears:with Elvis C. Somewhat NSFW country duet. Pretty cool but forgettable next to everything before it.

Heaven Blues: Back to early Folkways blues records. Scorching delta stomping dirge. The themes of West, but 100s times better and in 5:30.

Rarity: Leonard Cohen namecheck. The most West-esque song. Will *prob* grow on me. Eight minutes of it might be stretching the friendship.

Plan to Marry: Bit ponderous TBH. More West flashbacks! begone! Last four slowburners, time for another UP one ...

It's A Long Way to the Top: Well, I did ask for UP.

No probs, I added a text version of the comments to the main body of the post. Hope that helps.

Well twittered. I like this much better than the icy and detached West.
