Elvin Bishop’s “The Blues Rolls On”

Elvin Bishop shares the studio with an impressive cast of musicians on “The Blues Rolls On”. B.B. King, Kim Wilson, Warren Haynes, James Cotton and George Thorogood are just a few of the names blues fans will recognize. It’s Elvin’s disc but he’s confident enough in his guitar playing to share the stage and lead vocals with his guests giving the disc a hip blues radio show vibe. “Struttin’ My Stuff” is a funky blues cut that could have been the title track. “Send You Back to Georgia” stays true to the house rockin’ spirit of Hound Dog Taylor (drums and guitars-no bass), a cover of “Honest I Do” does Jimmy Reed proud and Clifton Chenier’s Zydeco “Black Gal”, complete with accordion and rub board, adds some Cajun spice. Elvin Bishop, like his kindred spirit the late great Doug Sahm, is a band leader with the knowledge, credibility, love of the blues, and talent to put together one of the best blues album I’ve heard in years.

“The Blues Rolls On” has earned a Grammy nomination for the “Best Traditional Blues Album”. Elvin has been nominated by The Blues Foundation for their 2009 "Contemporary Blues Artist of the Year" award. They've also nominated “The Blues Rolls On” for both “Album of the Year" and “Contemporary Blues Album of the Year", and the title track from “The Blues Rolls On” is up for song of the year! I’m guess I’m not alone in my opinion! Thanks for struttin’ your stuff Elvin!

Highly Recommended!
