Springsteen’s “Working On A Dream”
Posted by Hal Bogerd at February 8, 2009 9:44 PM“Have you ever seen a one-legged dog makin’ its way down the street?” Despite the lyrical misstep in “The Wrestler” (didn’t Bruce really mean to sing “Have you ever seen a three-legged dog makin’ its way down the street?”) this bonus track is the rarity, a true bonus and it is the payoff for making it through the rest of the disc. Mickey Rourke should win the "Best Actor" Oscar for his role as Randy "The Ram" Robinson in "The Wrestler" and Bruce should have received a “Best Original Song” Oscar nomination for his song “The Wrestler” which plays over the film’s closing credits. In contrast to most tracks on the overproduced disc, the acoustic “Wrestler” recalls “Nebraska” and “The Ghost of Tom Joad” in both sound and sentiment. If you loved Brendan O’Brien’s work on Springsteen’s “Magic” you’ll find something on “Working On A Dream” to enjoy, if not I’d recommend you skip it, buy a ticket to “The Wrestler” (the movie) and download “The Wrestler” (the song).
You can listen to the Golden Globe winning song "The Wrestler" here or watch the official trailer for the film.
