New releases: April 7, 2009
Posted by Stacy Chandler at April 3, 2009 2:18 PMUPDATE: How could I have missed it? Also coming out Tuesday is the self-titled solo debut from Nickel Creek's Sara Watkins. You can listen to six of the tracks here.
Alison Brown -- Company You Keep (Compass)
Ramblin' Jack Elliott -- A Stranger Here (Anti)
The Felice Brothers -- Yonder is the Clock (Team Love)
The Hold Steady -- A Positive Rage [CD/DVD] (Vagrant)
Bob Mould -- Life and Times (Anti)
Ellis Paul -- Summer Night in Georgia (Black Wolf)
Richard Shindell -- Not Far Now (Signature)
Vienna Teng -- Inland Territory (Zoe)
Toubab Krewe -- Live at the Orange Peel (Upstream)
The Tragically Hip -- We are the Same (Zoe)
David Wilcox -- Open Hand (What Are?)
Neil Young -- Fork in the Road (Reprise)
various artists -- Score! 20 Years of Merge Records (Merge)
This is an interesting take on a label tribute CD: Artists from outside the label covering songs recorded by the label's artists. So you have non-Merge folks such as Ryan Adams, the Shins, Death Cab for Cutie, Bright Eyes and the New Pornographers covering Merge acts like Superchunk, Crooked Fingers, Magnetic Fields, Neutral Milk Hotel and Arcade Fire. There's a limited number of CDs to be sold, and some proceeds go to charity.
Don't forget: April 18 is Record Store Day. No reason we can't celebrate early and often.
