Best Missed Discs: Austin Collins
Posted by Hal Bogerd at April 16, 2009 9:37 AMAustin Collins released his debut disc “Something Better” in 2005 and followed it up with his excellent sophomore release “Roses Are Black” (Fat Caddy Records) in 2008. Confession: I just discovered both discs this spring and to be honest I can’t recall how I stumbled across Austin on Amie Street. Collins has released two discs of electric and acoustic alt country gems (there is not a dud among the combined 22 tracks) that evoke the sound and spirit of Steve Earle, Son Volt and Whiskeytown. If you haven’t heard Austin Collins it is time to fix that right now! Stop by "Austin Collins and the Rainbirds" on MySpace and listen to some tracks from 2008's “Roses”. If you like what you hear you can go the digital download route over at Amie Street and purchase both discs for less than six bucks total! Physical discs of "Something Better" (more acoustic) and "Roses Are Black" (more electric) can be purchased directly from the Fat Caddy Records store.
Highly recommended.
Hal - I couldn't agree more. Hopefully Austin will start getting the recognition he deserves. I stumbled upon Austin by accident at SXSW '08 and have been listening to both his CD's regularly ever since.
Hopefully we can get him up to the Triangle area for a show in the near future.
