Webb Wilder / "More Like Me" (Blind Pig Records)
Posted by Hal Bogerd at April 21, 2009 10:33 PMWebb Wilder kicks off his second Blind Pig release with a rocking cover of "Ju Ju Man" (Ford/Vegas). The Flamin' Groovies had a go at it, Nick Lowe covered it with Brinsley Schwarz, Dave Edmunds recorded it on "Get It" and Nick and Dave performed it together as Rockpile. Sooner or later somebody's going to have a radio hit with this cult classic. Maybe it'll be Webb! Legendary Texan Roky Erickson's "Don't Slander Me" is the longest and darkest track on the disc with Webb effectively capturing Roky's legendary demons, paranoia and howl. Wilder digs up another chestnut with Jimmy Swan's "Honky Tonkin' (In Mississippi)" and its Hank William's inspired lyrics: "You take a Miss and a sip and honky tonk all night long!" Not just a cover artist, Webb showcases his own songwriting on several tracks including "Too Cool For Love" and "Come Around". Stop by and visit Webb Wilder on MySpace and rock out to "Ju Ju Man" and some other fine tracks. Roots-rockers will dig "More Like Me" as well as Webb's first Blind Pig release, the live "Born to be Wilder". You can buy them both here!
Contact Blind Pig Records and they'll send you a free catalog featuring all of their releases.
