Drive-By Truckers / "The Fine Print"

"George Jones Talkin' Cell Phone Blues", from DBT's "The Fine Print (A Collection of Oddities and Rarities 2003-2008)" on New West Records, warns of the real danger of driving while talking on your cell phone. "Don't be talkin' as you try to get back home. If you don't change your ways my friend, you'll be singin' duets with Tammy again" would make a great public service announcement. His phone almost killed George Jones and it could kill you too so hang it up, crank it up and drive. There's a poignant guitar driven cover of Zevon's "Play It All Night Long" with altered lyrics (It's not grandpa, this time "Zevon's got cancer") and a faithful rocking version of "Like A Rolling Stone" with Shonna Tucker sharing lead vocals. "Mama Bake A Pie" tells the moving story of a soldier missing both his legs returning home and dealing with his disability and the public's belief that the war was "a waste of time". Great stuff. Makes you wonder what other gems the Truckers have stashed in the vault!
