Mike Zito's "Pearl River" (ElectroGroove) is the perfect gift for the blues lover on your shopping list. Mike plays killer electric blues guitar, has a soulful voice to match and is a talented songwriter (Mike co-wrote or wrote most of the tracks). The easy comparison would be Stevie Ray Vaughn but Mike is far from a stylistic copycat. "One Step at a Time" is an acoustic track about personal battles fought and won. Zito reworks Sonny Boy Williamson's blues standard "Eyesight to the Blind" spicing it up and transforming it into New Orleans funk. Mike's originals blur the line between rock, blues, funk and soul (imagine SRV meets Johnny "Guitar" Watson meets Otis Redding) making "Pearl River" a strong contender for the best blues album of the year.
